Pride's here

Pride's here.

Not every queen feels like bursting into Holi powder. This is not a requirement.

For some queens, Pride can feel like trying to catch airborne glitter with chopsticks.

Pride can bring up
social anxiety,
trauma,
body dysmorphia,
addiction.

Pride's festival images of
white,
masculine,
athletic,
binary bodies
can make a queen feel
isolated,
excluded,
exhausted.

On one hand, I can count the number of times Pride festival weekends have been all celebration and jumping up and down. Of those times, only some were of a peaceful and tempered mind.

Pride can be a time for celebration. Also, a time for reflection and mindfulness. What do you offer to your friends, your best Judy's, your community?

A note for allies: Pride is not for you.

You are welcome, as all are welcome. And when you come, do partake. But get out of the way. There are eleven more months that celebrate you. Everyone loves drag, but as an invited guest in queer spaces, act accordingly.

Pride's here. Comes every year. Because of queer, trans, POC. Don't forget.

Pride's here. But it doesn't take corporate dollars and event planning to reach out, get together with other queers. Pride in who you are, where you came from, what you struggle with, your creativity, fire, amusement, breath is all year. Don't forget.

xoxo
